The Golden Trident

On November 6, 2024, Donald Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election, making him the 45th and 47th president of the United States. This has been possibly one of the most suspenseful and controversial elections in U.S. history. Trump won over Kamala Harris, with 312 electoral votes. Trump’s inauguration will take place on January 20th, 2025, and until then President Joe Biden will remain in office. So what is Trump’s plan to really “Make America Great Again”?

There has been a nationwide frenzy among primarily Democrats in regards to Trump’s plan for abortion. People are panicked that Trump plans to issue a nationwide ban on abortion rights. According to Trump, this is untrue. Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that gave states the decision to legalize abortion, was overturned in 2022, during the Biden administration. It seems Trump’s plan is to leave the overturn the way it is, although it is not in his hands. In doing this he is attempting to give more power back to the states and stop leaving these decisions in the hands of big government. Trump himself stated in his 2024 debate with President Biden that he believes abortion should be legal in the cases of  “rape, incest and the life of the mother.” He has also stated in his Agenda47 plan that he intends to enforce the death penalty on all human traffickers, in an attempt to protect women and children from sexual and other forms of slavery. 

Trump believes that the protection of U.S. citizens in the event of trafficking must also be done by increasing border security and decreasing illegal immigration to the U.S. The primary victims of trafficking are immigrant women and children. The typical process for trafficking is a single, adult male makes it across the border and through Border Patrol Processing Coordinators, and then smuggles a human back across the border with them to be trafficked. In 2019 a law was passed under the Trump Administration, allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to DNA test suspicious families to make sure no trafficking was occurring. This was, however, extremely controversial and was not used by the Biden administration. Trump plans to enact policies like this once again to put a stop to the human trafficking epidemic in the U.S. 

Another large issue that affects not only the U.S. but the world as a whole is war, specifically the idea of World War III. Due to many recent wars such as the war in Ukraine and the war in Gaza, the threat of nuclear war is higher than it has been in decades. This would be catastrophic on all levels, and for the entire world. Trump has plans to end this before it begins. On Thursday, November 7th, 2024, one day after Trump became the president-elect, Russia declared that it would be open to negotiations with the West on ending the war in Ukraine. Additionally, in a CBS News interview with reporter Margaret Brennan, Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee states, “They’ve [Hamas] announced they’d like to see peace. They like to see peace in Gaza.” Hagerty says he believes Hamas sees new leadership and it seems like there’s hope for peace. Furthermore, Trump plans to make the U.S. a more independent trading partner, especially from nations like China which the U.S. has become dependent on. In 2023 alone, 16.5% of the U.S.’ imported goods came from China. Trump has emphasized his goal is to “Put America first.” Isn’t that what the president of the United States should do? Even before being inaugurated into office this time around, Trump has proven he will shield America from the things we have been fearing. With lower crime rates, tighter borders and safer Americans. His policies are that of a U.S. president who cares for and loves his country. This is a time when we must place our trust in the hands of Trump, whether we want to or not. We must remember to respect our nation, our people, and ourselves. Let’s see what Trump can do for our country.
