Your Demons have been busy this fall semester. Look at what your fellow demons have been up to this fall semester.
Boys soccer. The boy’s soccer team fought hard this season and ended with a 10-4-3 record and a 9-1 record in league play. Golden boys soccer is ranked 18th out of the 60 4A Boys soccer teams. Coach Jamie Scarkliff’s team began the season with a six-game streak of ties and losses. The boy’s soccer team bounced back with their 6-game win and shutout streak. Your demons ended the season, beating Wheatridge in a thrilling 3-0 victory, which helped them finish second in the league. The boys finished 2nd in league and put on a solid display in the first round of playoffs against Windsor. Beating them 2-1, moving on to the second round in which they played Mullen. Our demons fell to Mullen 1-0 in a close game, with the only goal coming in the tenth minute. Overall, the boy’s soccer team put on a resilient display this season and proved there is much to look forward to in the next couple of years.
Football. Football is 6-6 on the season. The demons started their season in Orlando, Florida, with a stinging loss of 41-19 to New Smyrna Beach High School. The team lost once again against Brighton but came back in week three, beating Thomas Jefferson 48-19. We continued the winning streak for the next two weeks against Poudre and Lakewood. The Demons fell to Heritage in their 6th game, losing 28-7. We bounced back again, beating Bear Creek in a close game ending 14-7 in favor of the Demons. Just as fast as we bounced back, we bounced right back down, losing to Ponderosa 42-14 in our homecoming game. The demons started their playoff run against Riverdale Ridge, beating them in a close 17-14. Sadly, the Demons football team ended their season with a loss to Pueblo West, which ended with a stinging 49-7.
Golf team. The boys’ varsity golf team played in seven tournaments and placed 7th out of 12th in their best performance. The demons sent Jack Kent to the state tournament, where he put up a solid fight against great competition. He ended both rounds with a score of 65.
Volleyball. Volleyball finished the season with a 10-13 record. The team began their6-4 season with a 3-2 loss to Mullen but bounced back quickly with a 3-1 win over Holy Family. Throughout the rest of September, the team went 6-4. Throughout the rest of the season, they went 4-9. Overall, the lady demons put on a brutal display throughout the season and will hopefully continue fighting next season.
Boys and Girls Cross Country. The girls’ varsity and the junior varsity boys cross country teams won the JeffCo 5A League Championship, while our varsity boys and junior varsity girls came in as the runners-up. Multiple Demon runners were named on the 1st team all-conference for JeffCO 5A, including Cam Shull, Elsa Vesely, Jack Ferguson, and Sophia Halverson. On a similar trend, three Demons made it onto 2nd team all-conference: Sam Briggs, Ayden Corbo, and Mackenzie Buxton. Remember those who made the Honorable Mention list: Eddie Andrews, Owen Hobson, and Teagan Peters. Our JV demons Eli Esner and Evy Goff came home with the JV League Champion. The boy’s varsity team placed 14th in the 5A State Championship race. Congrats to all the runners who ran for Golden this season.
Dance. Golden High School’s dance, or pom, team has been busy this season. You may have seen the dance team at football games or the junior varsity team at some boy’s soccer games. The varsity dance team participated in the National Dance Association Rockies Regional at Mountain Vista High School in mid-November. On November 23rd, varsity and JV pom performed at ROAD 2STATE at the Denver Coliseum.
Cheer. You probably saw our Demons cheer team at the football games and the assemblies. But that’s not all they’ve been up to. The demons have also had two competitions. The first competition was leagues, competing at Columbine High School. Next, they performed at regionals, and our Demons qualified for Nationals. As well as winning first place in their division and 2nd overall. The cheer team will compete in the state championship in December and the national championship in January. Keep your eye out for posts on the cheer team’s Instagram to stay current on their standings and competitions.
Softball. Our Lady Demons have had a very successful season. They were leaving the regular season with an 18-7 record and a league title. The team got to the second round of the state tournament but fell to Pueblo County 10-0. During the season, the team sadly lost their head coach, Coach Vern. Coach Vern was and continues to be loved and remembered by the Golden Community. The girl’s softball team demonstrated strong against tough opponents the entire season. Our fellow demons are excited to see them continue their dominance next season.
Boys’ Varsity Tennis. The boys’ varsity tennis team finished the season with 153 matches, 51 wins, and 72 losses.
Congratulations to all the Golden athletes who played this fall season, especially the seniors who gave their time and effort to their respective teams. Prepare for the winter sports season; remember that spring is approaching.
