The film ¨Uptown Girls¨ was and still is an absolute classic comedy of the early 2000s, with amazing moments of humor and intensity. Starring Dakota Fanning as Ray Schlieme, who is a young girl with many responsibilities, and Brittany Murphy as Molly Gunn, who was once a rich young woman but through unfortunate circumstances, is told to find a job and becomes Ray’s new babysitter. The two iconic stars of the time,
their dynamic throughout the movie is so incredibly special and unlike anything else. Reportedly they each shared a great connection with one another during the filming process and the chemistry between the two really shine in this movie. The interactions between the two and their polar opposite personalities gives the audience some great moments of comedy, and as the film processes slowly revealing they may have more in common than they thought also gives moments of great emotion.
The fashion choices for each character really reflects what each character is like with the color palette, clothing items and accessories. It also shows how the character feels in each scene, with more upbeat moments having more color and pattern, while more solemn moments lack personal style and color. Though each of the characters experience hard times, the bond they have helped each other overcome their struggles and become stronger afterwards. Transcending their relationship of simply a babysitter and a child to friends and to practically mother and daughter. The movie gives many important lessons about childhood, and growing up but most importantly that you should never hold back from being your true self. -Ella Roldan
