Game 1 of the Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox series was a thrilling contest, with strong defense and offense from both sides at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox, also known as the Crosstown Classic, has been one of the best rivalry games in MLB since 1900, but the series hasn’t been competitive because the White Sox have been one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball for a long time. However, this year, the White Sox came out of nowhere and currently lead the American League Central. MLB is split into two leagues, the National League and the American
League, and each league has three divisions: the East, Central, and West. The Cubs have had a great year, but that was as expected. The game was a thriller, going into extra innings after nine innings couldn’t end it. The game ended with a walk-off home run from Cubs outfielder Pete Crow Armstrong, blasting a 2-run homer as his 2nd home run of the game. This was his 30th home run of the year and his second straight year with 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases at only the age of 24. Pete Crow Armstrong also went 4-for-5 in this game. The final score in 10 innings was a 5-7 Cubs win. This game showed that both teams can compete and will be hard teams to beat in the playoffs, and that Pete Crow Armstrong is the best center fielder, if not the best player in the world, with an MVP season at only the age of 24. –Jack Landreth
